His rotations during surgical residency included: Medicine, General Surgery, Anesthesia, Cardiology, Pulmonology, Trauma, and many other surgical and/or medical rotations to gain exposure to a variety of conditions relating to the entire human body pathophysiology and clinical medicine. He attended medical school both at the University of Florida and University of Texas.

Dr. McDonald was the first Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon to obtain core privileges at the Tampa Hospitals to include H&P credentials and was instrumental in developing call schedules in Facial Trauma. He served on many committees including Credentials Committees, Emergency Room Committees, Trauma Committees, and Surgical Subspecialty Committees. He holds unrestricted privileges to provide Oral & Maxillofacial Surgical procedures at the largest area hospitals and routinely covers the Emergency Rooms for call regarding facial trauma. He has lectured extensively and presented to many area organizations to educate the area in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. He has volunteered a great deal of his personal time to local residents for oral surgical services at no cost or reimbursement.
Dr. McDonald and his wife have lived on the same street in Tampa for over 15 years and have one child. He loves fishing in Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, as well as restoring boats as a hobby. He enjoys SCUBA diving in the Keys and loves the mountains of North Carolina. He is dedicated to the local community and provides many educational opportunities to our area.
